How the JLR Cyberattack Is Disrupting Parts Catalogues & Parts Availability

  • by Thomas Lund

If you’ve been following the news, you may have seen that Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has been hit by a major cyberattack which has forced the company to shut down large parts of its IT systems. Production at key UK plants has stopped, and investigations are ongoing.

But what does this mean for you as a Land Rover owner or enthusiast — especially when it comes to ordering parts? Let’s break it down.

What Happened at JLR?

At the end of August, JLR detected a significant cyber incident that compromised its internal systems. To contain the threat, the company disabled many of its IT services, which in turn brought production lines to a halt in Solihull, Halewood and Wolverhampton.

According to JLR, systems will remain offline until at least 24 September 2025 while security teams and forensic specialists carry out investigations and carefully restore access.

Why Parts Are Being Affected

The cyberattack hasn’t just impacted car production — it’s also disrupting the parts catalogue and ordering systems.

  • Parts catalogues offline – JLR’s centralised databases are currently down, meaning dealers and garages can’t easily look up or order the right components.

  • Supplier delays – Many suppliers rely on those digital systems to see which parts are needed. With the data flow interrupted, orders aren’t being placed or processed as quickly.

  • Knock-on effect for customers – If you’re waiting on a part for your Defender, Discovery or Range Rover, there may be longer lead times or uncertainty on availability until JLR’s systems are back online.

The Knock-On Effect for Land Rover Owners

For customers, this can mean:

  • Delays on repairs and servicing while garages wait for confirmation of parts availability.

  • Risk of the wrong parts being ordered if catalogue access is restricted.

  • Longer wait times for more specialised components, particularly for older models.

  • Possible price increases in the short term, if supply becomes tight.

It’s also worth noting that the disruption comes during one of the busiest times of year for UK registrations and servicing, which only adds pressure to the network.

How Long Will This Last?

Industry reports suggest that it could take weeks or even months for things to fully normalise. Even once systems are restored, there will be a backlog of orders and production gaps to clear.

This is why some garages and suppliers are already warning customers to plan for longer waiting times, and to be flexible with repairs and upgrades in the meantime.

What You Can Do

  • Check with your garage or supplier if they have stock on hand or can order through alternative channels.

  • Be flexible with timings – if your repair isn’t urgent, it may be best to wait until supply stabilises.

  • Plan ahead for restoration projects or larger jobs — get critical parts early if you can.

  • Stay updated – we’ll continue to post news here at Thomas Performance as the situation develops.

Final Thoughts

The JLR cyberattack highlights just how dependent the modern automotive world is on IT systems. When those systems go down, the effects are felt all the way from the factory floor to the parts counter.

Here at Thomas Performance Ltd, we’re keeping a close eye on availability and doing everything we can to support customers through this disruption. If you need advice on parts or want to check stock, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at info@thomasperformance.co.uk.
